May 1981

May 9
Rachel & I were at the doctor yesterday for her six week check-up. She's 10 lb 1 oz and has grown 3 cm. The doctor was pleased with her progress.

May 11
Good day! Kirsten was up early, but we had a great day. We dropped in to see Bjorg at Liv's this morning. From there we went to see Mom and went to town with Eunice... Kirsten went to sleep as soon as we got home and I got some cleanup done while she slept. It was so nice today for a change and she went right outside when whe woke up. After I started supper, I took the kids to Su's. They babysat while Einar & I had the evening to ourselves. It was super, but sure felt strange to both be home and have no kids to run after. Must admit, it was nice to have them back again too. (Even though Kirsten didn't go to sleep until 10 or later. She watched part of Fiddler on the Roof with us.)

May 12
Kirsten didn't sleep well last night (whats new?) but Rachel did. She ate at 9, went to sleep around 9:30 or 10 and slept until 4:40. I fed her and she slept until about 8:30 or 9. Kirsten, Rachel & I walked to Super Valu today for the first time. Rachel was in the snuggli (slept the whole time) and Kirsten pushed the stroller. That was fun. Einar was home early today.

May 13
I gave Rachel pablum last night and she slept from about 10:30 to 6 this morning. Kirsten has a rotten cold though and isn't sleeping very well.

May 18
We had a super time today with John & Jill. We went to the church for an indoor picnic for supper (it was raining.) Kirsten had fallen asleep in the car so we put her in the crib at church. She slept for a while, but not long enough. we tried to put her to sleep shortly after we got home (around 7:30) but she talked and cried and played until 10:30. Poor kid! She's so sweet, but so ornery. She likely inherited that from me, so maybe I'm to blame.

May 19
I woke up with a toothache and splitting headache. I managed to get breakfast for Kirsten and somehow drove to Mom's. Mom gave me a face-rub (felt good!) and I took a few asperins and went to sleep for a few hours. I felt a LOT better when I woke up. We had lunch and went to town together and then I went home. Kirsten fell asleep in the car again and I transfered her to her crib. She had a good sleep
Kirsten went to bed cheerfully tonight. That sure was nice! She was singing almost all evening.
May 20
We had a super day. Kirsten & I read books, burped dolls, etc in the morning. I wrote a letter while Kirsten watched Mr Dressup. After lunch we went to Liv's for a tupperware party. Liv picked me up so she could pick up the bird - we gave Sunshine to them. She was getting on my nerves.
Kirsten missed her nap today. We walked home and she played outside until Einar got home. She had a bath after supper and I put her to bed. She went right to sleep. Einar worked in the garden for a while. I tried, but Rachel didn't like being outside.

May 25
We left early Friday morning for Pender Island...We arrived just before lunch and the guys tried to move things around in the kitchen to make it usable. It was a mess! I was given the responsibility of putting the canned goods away. It worked out well because when one of the girls needed me, I could just go and then come back and get back to work when I was done. Both girls were just super! Rachel slept all day except to eat and then she was awake for awhile in the evening. Kirsten played really well all day and had a good nap both afternoons.

May 29
Rachel's been smiling for a few weeks already. She's so cheerful. Kirsten isn't - but I think she's getting her 2-year molars. She also has a cold. She went with Einar tonight to get a part for the car.
Our car died the other day on my way to Su's. I had to walk about a mile carrying both girls most of the time. I phoned Mom from Wagon Wheel and she came to get us.
I met our neighbor behind us today - Wendy Price. She has a girl Kirsten's age and is expecting #2 any day now.
