From MorMor's Journal - Kirsten is One Year Old

June 6, 1980
Kirsten is one year old today. This year has passed quickly!... Kirsten walks quite a bit now. She has her days when she'd rather crawl, but often she'll walk more than crawl. She's still a bit unsteady.

July 29
It has been HOT for over a week now. Kirsten has a heat rash already. She loves being outside, picking the raspberries and peas. She jabbers constantly, but "Mommy" is the only word she really says clearly. Loves to kiss people now. We spent one week at camp altogether - which Kirsten loved! The kids (& counselors) loved her too. The second week Mom & I went (I was head cook) alone. I missed Einar a lot and felt guilty for leaving Kirsten, but the Lord undertook.

Last weekend Einar & I... attended a marraige enrichment seminar in Langley... Kirsten stayed with Bertha in Vancouver. She was so happy to see us after being gone all day Saturday and about four hours Friday evening! She's getting her eyeteeth now and is very feverish, though she is still quite happy. (She already has eight front teeth and four molars.) She talks quite a bit now but her favorite word is "puppy." All animals are puppies except cat's - they're "meow." She's very confused about animals and their sounds, but she tries. I'm training her again and she's doing quite well. I still have to ask her though - she doesn't tell me herself. She loves "family hugs" and is usually quite quick to kiss (only family tho - & Purdies.) Last night Purdie's babysat & I think they enjoyed it as much as Kirsten. She just loves them!
Little Erik is now 3 1/2 months young (before birth) Except for the occasional wiggle, I'm often unaware that he exists - I feel so good. I notice tho - when I dress. I've been in maternity clothes for at least a month already. I weighed myself the other day... I've gained 3 lbs already. I'm not going to worry about it yet tho - I don't overeat.... I've finished crocheting a sweater for Erik. I want to make a bonnet too, and then a set in pink in case Erik turns out to be Heidi - which wouldn't be bad at all. I'm looking forward to seeing what God will give us.

(Sorry, Rachel, the pink set never was done... Jesse got the sweater set instead.)

We spent a nice weekend 'babysitting' Mom & Dads house. I think Kirsten really enjoyed that - all the room to run around. On Friday Einar got the permit for our patio, den & bedroom, so on Monday he got started digging holes, building forms, etc... Monday we spent a quiet evening at Mom & Dad's. Before Kirsten went to bed, Einar tried to teach her to play crokinole. The lesson that took longest to learn was - not to sit on the board. She mastered that one, but still crawled onto it to place Einar's pieces where she wanted them.
... We picked Einar up from work (in Whistler) and had coffee and pizza. Kirsten got sick just before we got home, so Einar stuck her in the tub. She just loves to be in the tub. When I cam in to the bathroom, she lay down flat on her back and kicked. She got water in her eyes, nose and mouth, but she just giggled and kicked harder. She just loves that. We're going to have to take her swimming soon.

...Today Mom, Kirsten & I went to Vancouver... Kirsten was so good. We had a good start this morning tho! I got up to make pancakes for Einar and she worke up for breakfast too. Roger was late picking Einar up so we had a nice long breakfast together - all wide awake and cheerful. Then Kirsten & I watched the sunrise. That was so beautiful! I had to phone Mom to go and look.
Kirsten can say almost everything now. She likes to imitate. She still loves books, music, horses, kitty's and puppys and especially horses. We want to get Kirsten a fish tank with fish for Chrsitmas. She really loves any animals and she seems to like watching goldfish too.
Next weekend we're leaving Kirsten while we go to Victoria for our second honeymoon and Bjory & Ken's wedding... I'm scared of leaving Kirsten (she'll be with Su) but I'm looking forward to being alone with Einar!
