The Gift of January 1, 2011

The picture is a year old, but memories are what make even the present special, right? We were so priveleged to have our friends John & Elda (& JoLynne) here to spend New Year's Eve with us. So on the 1st of January, when I woke up to the gift of my new day, Einar had already left to take our kids to the airport for their warm vacation. When Elda got up, we had time for our first cup of coffee before the others were up and around.

I don't think we ever took each other for granted. We've always both been grateful for a friendship that allowed us to be open with one another, and often joked about the fact that we generally took turns being the 'high-needs' friend. We've missed our coffee times terribly. And so we were grateful for this time again.

Einar came back with my niece who is attending Providence. Another gift. I'm so thankful we live in a place that is convenient for my family members to drop in now and then. We were able to have a breakfast altogether before our friends left for their next gathering.

On this day, I was grateful for many things. Including a warm house that's big enough for family and friends to congregate. And the willingness of my dear husband to be the one to get up at 4:30 am to do the morning airport run.
