If I were to offer advice to today's parents based on our experience, I would suggest waiting longer to potty-train a child! Somehow we thought the earlier the better. In retrospect, I don't think I was wise in this, but I can't revise my journal, so here it is.
March 31, 1980 - Kirsten did get used to the pottie quickly - today she won't have a dirty diaper! The crib tho, is a different matter. She fell out of it last week and is back in the little one until we can get the mattress lowered or the rail heightened. Isaac & Dorothy arrived on Saturday... Kathy sure loves Kirsten.
April 10, 1980 - We've had a pretty tough week. Kirsten has had a bad cold and kept us up all of Monday nite. Einar walked her all night. She was miserable on Tuesday, but gets better all the time except for her cough. That's not very good yet.
April 11, 1980 - ... I was standing and talking to him (Pastor Purdie) before we left and Kirsten suddenly gave me a kiss! Normally she loves it when Einar & I kiss, but she'll seldom kiss us, so that was a special treat. Kirsten has a new word - tickle "gitte-gitte".
April 25, 1980 - Kirsten has been off the bottle for about a week now. Hasn't even missed it. She isn't kissing much right now, but hugs a lot. She loves to 'squeeze.' She likes her playpen less and less. It's too restrictive. But she's playing nicely in it right now. Her favorite toys? - BOOKS!!! She loves them.
Kirsten just loves to click her tongue. She does that constantly now. I'ts cute.
I am not including every post... there's just too much that wouldn't interest anyone. But it seems we had plenty of babysitters: Eunice, Mom K, Liv, Mom S, Su & Jerry... And she seems to cope better with babysitters than that first entry.
May 1980 - Kirsten can say a few things other than "pretty" & "tickle" now. "Kitty" and "Wow-wow" (dog) are fairly new. She imitates a lot though and it's hard to tell what she knows. The farthest she has walked yet is 3-4 steps. She's taking her time at that. She is a show-off, tho, and likes to have an audience.
It has been amazing how much I have seen Haley in these posts. Not surprising, I'm sure!
